Quotes

When it is necessary that we should possess gold in great abundance, the Lord will show it to us in vision and we shall not have to prospect and dig to find it, as the wicked have to do. The liberty of the Saints is to possess power with God to open gold mines, when we want gold; to plant and reap in abundance; to heal the sick of our families and to heal our animals that serve us; to elude every snare of the enemy.

(Brigham Young J.D. 10:288)

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A spokeswoman for Iowa Homeland Security said at least four people were killed and 40 injured when a tornado struck a western Iowa Boy Scout camp Wednesday evening.

Iowa Homeland Security spokeswoman Julie Tack said a search and rescue team was deployed to the camp near Little Sioux in Harrison County. She said the camp was covered with debris and downed trees after the tornado hit about 7 p.m.

Tack said 93 campers and 25 staff members were at the camp. The campers, between 13 and 18 years old, were attending a leadership training camp.

"They were considered some of the best in the area," Tack said.

At least 40 people who were injured in the storm were taken to hospitals.

While several Midwest states were dealing with high winds or tornadoes Wednesday evening, residents in other Midwestern states earlier in the day were frantically sandbagging, watching weakened dams and rescuing people from floodwaters that in some places rose knee-high.

Meanwhile, on the East Coast, more than a dozen deaths were attributed to a four-day heat wave.
